I sooooo did not want to run today!!!!
Have you ever had a day where you felt like this? Well, I’m sure if you’re a human being and still breathing; you have. It’s not surprising that we feel like this most days but the question is, what do you do about it?
Sadly, for many, it just means that they give up too easily. Life is hard. Do you stop living because of this fact? Hopefully not. Think of all the “hard” things you do daily.
Go to work.
Take care of your family, kids, home, daily responsibilities.
Grocery shopping, cooking, cleaning.
Laundry, driving, upkeep of automobile, etc.
The list is endless. Do we stop these chores because we “don’t wanna”? NO!
Then for goodness sakes, don’t give up so easily when you don’t want to take care of the most important machine you have….YOUR BODY!!!
Think about it; if you don’t want to clean your house and you have the means to hire help…you get a housecleaner.
If you need help with your kids; you can hire a babysitter or nanny.
If you need help with meals, you can buy foods which are pre-made or hire a caterer, etc.
But if you don’t feel like
working out and even if you have the means; you cannot hire this job out!!! Even with a personal trainer or set program; YOU still have to show up and do the work.
Let me tell you how difficult today was.
I was tired. My legs were heavy. There was that time change this weekend that is screwing me up. I have too many other things to get done. There were other excuses but I think you get the picture.
Aside from all of these issues, I still made it out the door in my running shoes and course map.
Only to find that it was NINETY DEGREES outside at 10am in NOVEMBER!!!!
I couldn’t possibly submit myself to this type of torture, now, could I?
Seriously, I grumbled all the way to my starting point. I parked my car and walked to my starting point; all the while thinking up reasons why this wouldn’t work. I told myself things such as, “I could run for a few minutes and if it gets too hot; I’ll just turn around”, and “It’s obviously too hot today and what if I become dehydrated and feel like passing out?” and on it went.
In spite of all this
negative talk (and I’m sharing this with you so that you realize that I have difficult too; I just don’t show it to you as much), I still kept moving forward. I arrived at my start point and just started to run. I decided to make it slower today since the heat was intense and I was alone. I focused on specific landmarks and passing
them. I passed up another runner on my path and when we both came up to a signal; he asked how much I run. I told him I was training for a marathon and he shared that he can only run 4-5 miles at a time but when he saw me run past him, it gave him a competitive feeling to run faster and keep up with me.
Say what? Never would I have imagined (in my negative “Monday” rant) that I was actually going to inspire someone today! Imagine that. Don’t take for granted that you aren’t doing the very same thing with your current struggles and goals.
Be brave. Go forward. What’s the worst that could happen?
Don’t think about that. Focus on just doing it. JUST GO….
