I have the awesome pleasure of working with people all over the globe in getting healthy/fit and financially fit. It brings me joy when I hear that my clients are crushing their past roadblocks and moving further ahead than they had ever imagined…
There’s one common denominator (ya, I hated math too!) that keeps setting so many of these people back. Granted, it’s mostly the “ladies” that I’m speaking about in this particular post. Guess what one of the biggest issues are that keeps holding these women from moving ahead in their success?
Yep, you heard me right. Just snapping crap about someone else as the desire hits.
I mean, what could be better than chewing someone else up when you aren’t feeling so hot about your accomplishments, right? WRONG, people!! It’s SOOOOOO wrong!
And I don’t mean just cuz it’s mean…”mean girls”?
So many of us spend a GINORMOUS amount of time worrying about what’s going on it other people’s lives, instead of just focusing in on themselves and what they need to change.
All this worrying only steals away our precious time and energy.
We live in an “instant” entertainment culture. There’s reality t.v, Facebook, Twitter, SnapChat, Instagram, Pinterest (enter any social media forum here); and we are spending our days watching and worrying about what everyone else is up to. Now be honest, are you guilty of this bad habit? Do you talk about anyone in the entertainment industry, or your neighbors, your friends, your spouse, your family members, co-workers, people you don’t even know? Do you complain about how they “did this” or “did that” or gossip and whine about them and their goings on?
Do you get how RIDICULOUS that sounds? And yet, we are sooo focused on them that we completely get caught up in what WE think that we actually lose sight of what we ARE. (I know, deep, right?) 😉
If you think about how all that precious time and energy which could be used in such a wonderful and positive way to help YOU improve your life and your situation. I know so well about this issue because I’ve done a complete overhaul on my own bad habits and practices and I could tell you first hand that it WORKS wonders!!! Even many of my team members have been learning how their negative mindset and wishful thinking can be replaced to a more empowering and powerful shift that brings them success almost immediately!!
This includes getting into the best shape of your life; and staying there! Imagine that 😉
I know that in business, it’s important to know what your competition is doing. It’s also important to not allow yourself to get so caught up in THEM and what they are doing that you lose the ability to create and work your own business. Being my own boss now; I know how critical this is to my success. I have set some major goals for this new year and if I sit and stalk what everyone else is doing; how can I possibly reach my level of success? Answer; I wouldn’t. There have been businesses that have collapsed under their own bad habits; that being too focused on what their competition was doing rather than paying attention to their actual customers and work.
The same is true for us as individuals.
I like to refer to this as our daily “Focus”.
We simply cannot focus positively on ourselves and bettering our own life when we’re focused negatively on others.
It’s impossible. You need to make a choice and at times, sacrifices too.
If we’re so focused on everyone else, how can we possibly attend to our own needs and achieve our own personal goals. We simply won’t.
So what can we do to focus less on others and more on ourselves?
Here are three simple tips you can start adopting today that will greatly improve your results:
1) Eliminate Gossiping from your life
If you find yourself caught up in a conversation that has gone down the gossip trail either change the topic or excuse yourself. Also, stop surrounding yourself with others who continue to talk bad about others (spoiler alert: they are also talking crap about YOU, behind your back!) yu-huh!
2) Stop watching so much of other people’s lives on T.V. Turn it off!!
Create your own reality show. Create your own adventure. Create your own story.
3) Stop lurking around on social media. Do something with your day and your LIFE!
Social networks are great for quickly catching up with friends and relatives but beyond that can become a powerful demotivator if allowed. That’s because social networks have largely become a convenient way to try to “keep up with the Jones”. Click off and go work on building your dream. Or, if you are like me and use it for business, stay uber-focused on what you are there to accomplish and log off. Don’t start checking out Susie’s new baby pictures and aunt Lou’s rant about uncle Bob….
